Introduction

There is only 1 possible way that I can possibly describe the course facing History and Ourselves, and that is with the following word: moving. There are times in the class where we talk about and see footage of what actually happened to the Jewish people, and it is enough to bring tears to peoples eyes. After witnessing footage of life at the death camps, it is beyond safe to say that the way the Nazis acted towards the Jewish people was past inhumane. After taking this class, my eyes were opened to a moment in history that should never be forgotten and unfortunately, it is. All over the world populations have been convinced that the Holocaust was a lie, and that it never occurred. With this course, people will be able to keep the memory of what happened vivid in people’s mind and make sure that what happened to the Jewish people will never happen again. Facing History allows students to see who they are as a person and the type of person that they can be in society. This course isn’t designed to be just any other history class that students have to ability o just blow over from a day to day basis. It is meant to be a course that keeps students interested in the actualities of humanity and it keeps the memory of the world’s most horrific event fresh in people’s minds. Without this type of course, then the memory of the Holocaust would surely fade out, and all of the injustice brought to the Jewish people would be forgotten forever. Allowing students to see what happens changes who they are as people, and solidifies the fact that the Jewish community, or any community at that, will never have to go through this again. With the help of Mr. Gallagher and the Facing History Organization, they are changing society as a whole and individuals one at a time. How do I know? I am one of the people who have been affected by this class. I now know who I am a person and the type of person that I can be. Because of this class, every person who has seen what they have seen and read what they have read has made history. This class allows people not to forget and allows society to move in a forward and positive direction.
